🍽️ Where to Grab a Bite… or Share One!

This week, we’re doing something a little different — and we need your help to cook it up! πŸ‘¨‍πŸ³πŸ‘©‍🍳

We want to hear about your favourite recipes ! Whether it’s Nonna’s meatballs, your famous strawberry jam, Aunt Ruth’s butter tarts, or that go-to casserole you whip up every Sunday — we’re calling on SD&G food lovers to send in the dishes that bring comfort, joy, and flavour to your kitchen.

πŸ“§ Email us your recipe at [ jared@sdgscoop.ca ] and include:

  • The full recipe (ingredients + instructions)

  • A photo or two (bonus points for one of you with the dish!)

  • A short note about why it’s special to you

This could be something passed down through generations or a creation you’ve perfected on your own. We’ll be selecting a collection of community recipes to feature in an upcoming Recipe Roundup edition of the newsletter!

Let’s bring a little more local flavour to inboxes across SD&G. We can’t wait to see (and maybe even try!) what you’ve been cooking. πŸ²πŸ“ΈπŸ’Œ

THROWBACK CORNER
πŸ“Έ   Dominion Days on Montreal Road

If you grew up in Cornwall, chances are this scene brings back a few memories — the bustling corner of Montreal Road just east of McConnell, anchored by the iconic Dominion grocery store.

With its bold signage, street-front windows stacked with deals (check out those 3-for-89¢ specials!), and the hum of shoppers coming and going, Dominion was more than just a supermarket — it was a community hub. Folks popped in for the week's groceries, caught up with neighbours, and maybe grabbed a loaf of bread or two before hopping back into one of those classic rides lining the curb.

Next door, the Bank of Montreal held its place as another mainstay, and across the street the Royal Hotel sign glowed above the downtown stretch, with Fullerton and Morrow's Salon rounding out a block rich in local history and small-town charm.

πŸ“ This is the Cornwall many remember fondly — where everything you needed was just a short walk (or a few parking meters) away.

Have stories or memories of shopping at Dominion? We’d love to hear them! Share on our Facebook page and let’s keep the nostalgia alive. πŸ›’ πŸ•°οΈ

COMMUNITY WINS
πŸ† Keeping History Alive, One Handcrafted Piece at a Time

Photo courtesy of Upper Canada Village - Morrisburg, ON

This week’s Community Win takes us behind the scenes at Upper Canada Village, where history isn’t just preserved — it’s handcrafted.

The skilled artisans and tradespeople at the Village have been hard at work this year, and one of their most exciting recent projects is now complete: a brand-new fence for the Pastor’s House, built entirely on-site using traditional 1860s techniques.

From cutting the logs at the Saw Mill, drying the wood the old-fashioned way (fun fact: it takes about a year per inch of thickness!), to assembling every picket by hand at the Cabinetmaker’s Shop — this beautiful white fence is more than a structure. It’s a testament to craftsmanship, heritage, and the quiet pride that keeps Upper Canada Village so special.

As you stroll through the Village this summer, keep an eye out for this new addition and the many other subtle upgrades made by the team. It’s just one more way they’re helping history live on — one board, beam, and nail at a time.

πŸ‘ Hats off to the whole team for keeping tradition alive in such a thoughtful and meaningful way!
