THROWBACK CORNER
📸
A Look Back at Pitt Street & More on O’Shea’s

This week’s throwback comes courtesy of Maurice Taillon, who shared some fantastic photos of Gadbois Jewellers , once located at 108 Pitt Street in Cornwall. The collection shows the outside storefront, the inside, and even the back room, and if you look closely, you can spot the old wall-mounted telephone in one of the shots. It’s a fascinating glimpse into the businesses that once lined our downtown streets. Big thanks to Maurice for digging these up and sharing with the community!
And speaking of our Throwback section, we also received a lovely note from reader Leslie-Anne in response to a previous week’s feature on O’Shea’s Store in Williamstown. Leslie-Anne shared that the store was owned by her great uncle, Thomas O’Shea. The O’Shea family emigrated from Ireland to Canada in 1849, settling in Munroe’s Mills. A proud Irish family, their store was a staple in the Williamstown community for years.
It’s stories like these that make our history feel so alive and we’re so grateful to our readers for adding their family stories and memories to the Scoop.
👉 Have an old photo or family connection to share? Send it our way - we’d love to feature it in a future edition!

PET OF THE WEEK
🐶
A Happy Ending in Martintown
This week, we’re sharing a heartwarming reminder of what can happen when a community comes together.
A sweet senior gal from the Rosebush area, just east of Martintown, recently went missing - and her family was understandably very worried. She’s mostly deaf, blind, and missing an eye, which made her disappearance especially concerning.
But thanks to the power of sharing, caring, and a bit of canine determination, this story has a happy ending: she walked back home on her own! 💕
Her safe return is not only a relief to her family but also a wonderful example of the kindness and connectedness we see across SD&G. Every share, every message, and every watchful eye truly makes a difference.
Here’s to more happy endings and more proof that when neighbours look out for one another (two-legged or four), great things happen. 🐶 ❤️

COMMUNITY WINS
🏆
Cornwall Chaos Raises the Roof (and Funds!) for Hospice
What a weekend it was! 🎸 Cornwall Chaos, which we recently featured in our events section, and spotlighted organizer Ryan O’Neil in our Meet Your Neighbour series, turned out to be a massive success, filled with music, heart, and generosity.
Over two packed days, 24 bands took the stage, donating their time and talent to raise money for Carefor Hospice Cornwall . The energy was electric, with musicians traveling from as far as Guelph, Toronto, Kingston, Ottawa, and Montreal to be part of the cause. Closer to home, local businesses, sponsors, and volunteers stepped up in a big way, from financial support and raffle donations to helping with the heavy lifting.
Ryan summed it up perfectly: without the generosity of sponsors like St. John’s Transfer Ltd. , local organizations, and the incredible lineup of musicians, none of this would have been possible. The result? Hundreds of tickets sold, countless smiles, and a wave of support for a cause close to so many hearts in our community.
👏 A heartfelt thank you to everyone who played a part - on stage, behind the scenes, or in the crowd. Cornwall Chaos wasn’t just about the music; it was about community spirit at its loudest and finest.
JUST FOR FUN
🎯 Games Corner – Just for Fun!
Did you know the St. Lawrence River is more than just our local gem - it’s a global heavyweight? 🌊 This incredible river system drains a whopping 25% of the world’s freshwater reserves through the Great Lakes basin.
Stretching 1,197 km (744 miles) from Lake Ontario all the way to the Atlantic Ocean, the St. Lawrence isn’t just about size. It’s home to some pretty extraordinary neighbours too — including beluga and humpback whales that call its waters home! 🐋
On top of that, it powers communities through hydropower and fuels major economic activity as part of the St. Lawrence Seaway .
👉 Fun challenge: Next time you’re by the water, imagine everything that river connects - from our backyard here in SDG, all the way out to the Atlantic Ocean. Pretty wild, eh?
