Cornwall’s Seaway Bridge at Night

Photograph by Doug Petepiece
It’s hard to believe this photo was taken nearly a decade ago - but here it is, a stunning night capture of the old Cornwall Seaway Bridge , shot in 2015 by local photographer Doug Petepiece. πβ¨
For many of us, this bridge was more than just steel and concrete - it was a connection point, a daily sight, and part of Cornwall’s skyline. Lit up against the night sky and mirrored perfectly in the water below, this shot feels almost like a dream now that the structure is gone.
It’s a reminder of how quickly our landscapes change and why we cherish these snapshots of our past.
Do you have memories of crossing the old Seaway Bridge? We’d love to hear your stories - or better yet, see your photos!
PET OF THE WEEK
πΆ
Summer Heatwave Edition
With the heat cranking up this week, we’re putting the spotlight on pet safety instead of a featured furry friend - because keeping our companions cool is just as important as cuddles. βοΈ πΆπ±
Here are a few quick tips to help your pets stay safe and comfortable during a summer heatwave:
π§ Hydration is everything. Make sure your pets always have access to cool, clean water. You can even toss in a few ice cubes to keep it chilled and fun!
π Avoid midday walks. Stick to early mornings or later evenings when the pavement isn’t scorching. If you can’t hold your hand to the ground for 5 seconds, it’s too hot for their paws.
π³ Shade & fans go a long way. Whether your pets are indoors or out, make sure they have access to a shady spot and good airflow.
π Never leave pets in a parked car - ever. Even for a minute. The temperature can skyrocket in no time, putting them in real danger.
π Cool-down tricks. A gentle splash with a damp cloth or a quick belly dip in a kiddie pool can do wonders on a hot day.
If your pet is panting heavily, seems lethargic, or shows signs of distress, don’t wait - call your vet right away.
Let’s make sure our four-legged family members stay cool, safe, and happy all summer long! ππΎ
Have a pet you’d like featured in an upcoming issue? Send us their cutest pic and a fun fact - we’d love to share them with the Scoop community!
COMMUNITY WINS
π
North Glengarry Firefighters Tackle Field Fire in Extreme Heat

Huge thanks to the firefighters of SD&G!
Big hats off (or should we say helmets?) to the incredible crews at North Glengarry Fire Services , who responded to an outdoor fire last week caused by a mechanical failure of a baler.
With scorching temperatures and dry conditions, it wasn’t an easy job - but thanks to the coordinated effort of all three stations , the fire was brought under control quickly and safely. πͺπ₯
These kinds of responses remind us how lucky we are to have such dedicated first responders protecting our rural communities. Thank you for your hard work, your sweat (literally), and your service! π¨ππ©π
Let’s give them a virtual round of applause - and a cold drink if you see them out in the community this week! ππ
JUST FOR FUN
π― Games Corner – Just for Fun!
We stumbled across a
CBC article claiming
that Moncton, NB, is the
Tim Hortons Capital of Canada
with 26 locations serving about 100,000 people.
But… hold your double-double — because
Cornwall might just have them beat
.
With at least 12 Tim Hortons locations (and some say more on the way!) serving a population of roughly 47,000 , Cornwall has one Tims for every ~3,900 people - compared to Moncton’s one per ~3,850 .
If you ask us, those numbers are close enough to say:
π
Move over, Moncton - Cornwall LOVES its Timmies, too!
β€οΈβ
π©
β Got a favourite Timmies order or local Tims story? We’d love to hear it - send it in and we might feature it next week!
π P.S. If anyone’s keeping a Timbit tally - let us know how many locations Cornwall really has. We’re ready to update the scoreboard!
