Local Business Spotlight: Cornwall Painting Plus
ποΈ
Ever wonder who's behind the fresh coats of paint brightening homes and businesses across SD&G? Well, grab your coffee, friends—this week, we're chatting with CJ, the friendly face and seasoned pro behind Cornwall Painting Plus !
With over 20 years of painting experience (including large-scale industrial and commercial projects), CJ isn't just bringing colour to the community—he's adding a fresh perspective on how local businesses can thrive right here at home.
Our Local Business Spotlight series gives you the inside scoop on Cornwall's passionate entrepreneurs—the folks making our community shine, one brushstroke at a time.
Ready to spruce up your space? Check out CJ's incredible work at www.cornwallpainting.ca . Now, let's dive into CJ’s story...

CJ from Cornwall Painting Plus
CJ, you got your start painting alongside your dad—what’s the most valuable lesson you learned from him that you still apply today?
Oh man, my dad taught me tons, but if I had to pick one, it’s definitely that prep work is everything. People think painting is mostly about rolling paint onto walls, but the real magic happens before the first brushstroke. Sanding, taping, priming—doing that right makes all the difference. Thanks, Dad! π It’s amazing how that simple advice has stuck with me, and honestly, it's what sets us apart from others in the industry.
As a successful local business with a strong online presence, what's one piece of advice you'd give to other small businesses looking to improve their digital footprint?
Honestly, keep it real and consistent. Share the good stuff—like before-and-after pictures or behind-the-scenes shots. People love seeing real work and real people. It’s about building trust and being part of the community online, just like we are offline. Engaging with people and responding to comments and questions quickly goes a long way. If you treat your online followers like friends, they’ll support you like friends too.

No job is too big or small!
Cornwall Painting Plus is clearly growing and thriving in our community. What has been your proudest moment or achievement since starting the business?
Great question! For me, it's every time someone recommends us to their friends or neighbours. Nothing beats that feeling—it shows we're doing something right. Plus, seeing our team grow and create local jobs feels amazing. That's a huge thumbs-up moment for sure! π It's really rewarding when customers become repeat clients and spread the word about us; that's when we know we're truly part of the community.
Running a local business isn't always smooth sailing—can you share a funny or memorable moment from a painting job that you’ll never forget?
Haha, yeah—one time we were painting an older country house in Williamstown, and we discovered the homeowners’ cat had stepped in a paint tray and left paw prints everywhere! It turned into a full rescue mission (don’t worry, the cat was fine, and the paint came off easily!), but we still laugh about it today. That’s painting life for ya! Moments like these remind us to stay flexible and keep a good sense of humour on the job.

Not an actual image of the incident, but we thought it would be fun to share!
We hear you're looking to expand your team! What qualities do you think make someone a great fit for Cornwall Painting Plus, beyond just painting skills?
Definitely attitude. We look for people who are friendly, dependable, and take pride in their work. Skills we can teach, but having a positive, can-do attitude—that’s priceless. Plus, someone who loves chatting with our customers is always a bonus. We're proud of our team dynamic, so finding someone who genuinely enjoys working as part of a close-knit group is super important.
If anyone is interested in applying, feel free to get in touch with me or submit a careers form on our website. We would love to hear from you as we know there's a lot of quality workers in the Cornwall area!
www.cornwallpainting.ca/careers
And lastly, what's your favourite part about doing business in Cornwall and SD&G?
Easy answer: the people! We get to meet awesome folks every day and work in this amazing community. Everyone supports each other here, and that’s pretty special. I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Cornwall and SD&G have a unique, close-knit community feel you don't find everywhere. We're grateful every day to be part of such a supportive and welcoming environment.
π Thanks for sharing your story with us, CJ! π
Feeling inspired to transform your own space? Whether it's your home, office, or commercial building, Cornwall Painting Plus has got you covered. Head over to their website at www.cornwallpainting.ca to see more of their fantastic work or to get in touch.
Know another great local business or entrepreneur we should feature next? We’d love to hear from you! Drop us a line, and let's shine a spotlight on more amazing SD&G stories.

THROWBACK CORNER

Cornwall’s Towering Past

Flashback!
How’s this for a blast from the past? This striking shot of the Cornwall water tower is giving us all the vintage vibes — from the bus shelter to what we believe is a 1984 Renault Alliance driving in the foreground.
This photo stirred up a bit of local debate — some folks say the land just east of the tower was once army grounds , while others swear that’s not the case. We’d love to settle it once and for all:
π§ Do you remember what stood there? Was it military, residential, or something else entirely?
Drop us a line if you’ve got the scoop (or even better — an old photo or memory to share!).
PET OF THE WEEK
πΆ
Do You Know This Sweet Girl?

Let’s find her home and owners
π Found on Cumberland Street, Cornwall | π Date Found: July 15, 2025
This one really tugs at our hearts π — this lovely pup was found wandering alone in Cornwall earlier this week and is now in the care of the Ontario SPCA SD&G Animal Centre . She’s a sweet, dark-haired girl with soulful eyes who clearly just wants to be back with her people — or find a new, loving home if that's not possible.
If you recognize her or know who she might belong to, please call the SPCA at 613-936-0072 . Let’s help get her back where she belongs.
To reclaim an animal, the SPCA asks that you bring:
-
Valid photo ID
-
Proof of ownership (photos, vet records, microchip info)
-
A collar/leash or carrier
-
Payment of applicable fees
We’re keeping our fingers crossed that this story has a happy ending. πΆπ Please share and spread the word.
COMMUNITY WINS
π
A Gift That Keeps on Giving
Talk about neighbourly love — this week we’re giving a big round of applause to the St. Lawrence Seniors Club , who generously donated $10,000 to the Ontario SPCA Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry Animal Centre . β€οΈ πΎ
There’s something truly heartwarming about one non-profit lifting up another — especially when it helps keep people and their pets together in times of need.
The SPCA team shared their gratitude, saying it best: “We can’t say thank you enough to each and every member — you’re all amazing!”
π A huge thanks to the St. Lawrence Seniors Club for their kindness and community spirit — this is what SD&G is all about.
