We’re also taking a trip down memory lane in Throwback Corner , where we’re reminiscing about that classic summer stop before hitting the Parkway—did someone say Becker’s and bikes at sunset? ๐ฒ And if you’re feeling inspired, don’t miss the next Glengarrian Story Slam —an open mic night where real stories shine and dreams just might come true.
Grab your tea, cozy in, and let’s get into what’s happening around our corner of the world this week. โ๏ธ

Barb & Jeanie – Stitching Stories into Every Quilt

Photo by: Jason Setnyk, Seaway News
This week, we're proud to feature Barb McLean and Jeanie McIntyre , two of the creative hearts behind the Cornwall Quilters Guild . As key organizers of Quilts on the Seaway , they’ve helped transform a passion for quilting into a powerful community event that showcases local talent, history, and heart.
Both women are long-time quilters who find joy not just in the craft, but in the friendships and stories woven through every stitch. Whether it’s supporting local charities through their projects or helping new quilters find their rhythm, Barb and Jeanie are true community gems.
You can see their work—and that of many others—at Quilts on the Seaway , April 11–12 at St. John’s Presbyterian Church.

A Summer Stop Before the Parkway

Art by Nathan Goswell Creative
This colourful piece by Canadian artist Nathan Goswell Creative captures a scene that feels instantly familiar to anyone who grew up in the area—bikes parked outside a small-town corner store, the soft glow of a summer evening, and the promise of popsicles and penny candy.
Circa 1990s, it reminds many locals of that Becker’s or possibly Jolly Wolly’s —the classic stop before heading into the Parkway. Whether you were grabbing a slushie, checking out the sticker rack, or just cooling off in front of the ice machine, spots like this were pure magic.
Got a memory from that store or another summer hangout spot? Hit reply—we’d love to feature it in a future Scoop!

Remington the Gentle Giant

Remington, the Gentle Giant
Say hello to Remington , a 1-year-old Basset Hound with a big heart and a soft spot for human companionship. Currently available for adoption at the Ontario SPCA Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry Animal Centre , Remington is described as a gentle soul who walks beautifully on leash and thrives in calm, patient environments.
This sweet boy would love a quiet home where he can relax, snuggle, and enjoy the little things in life—like belly rubs and soft blankets. Remington is looking for a family who will give him time to adjust and lots of love in return.
If you’re ready to open your heart (and your home) to Remington, he’s waiting to meet you!

Cornwall Canal in 1926!
Thanks to everyone who played along with last week’s “Guess the Year” photo of the Cornwall Canal! That charming scene—with the horse-drawn carriage and the Sterling Bank in view—was from 1926 . If you guessed correctly, give yourself a pat on the back (and maybe a butter tart to celebrate ๐ ).
This week’s trivia question is for all the local history buffs out there:
๐
What was Cornwall’s population in 1896?
Take a wild guess—and we’ll reveal the answer at the bottom of the newsletter! ๐
