This week, we’re tipping our hats to two young stars who went above and beyond to make our region shine a little brighter: Macey and Daniel , student staff at Ivy Lea Campground with Parks of the St. Lawrence. 🌿

All summer long, Macey and Daniel poured their energy, teamwork, and professionalism into ensuring that visitors had a welcoming and memorable experience. From supporting daily operations to lending a hand wherever needed, they showed that dedication and heart make all the difference.

Their hard work didn’t go unnoticed - both were proudly recognized with a Certificate of Appreciation for their outstanding service. And honestly? We think they deserve a round of applause from the whole community. 👏

Here’s to the next generation of leaders who remind us that it takes passion (and a lot of perseverance) to keep our parks and campgrounds the beautiful, inviting spaces we all enjoy.

THROWBACK CORNER
📸   Grand Opening of the Pitt Street Mall (Sept. 30, 1978)

Feathered hair, flared jeans, and a sea of Saturday smiles - downtown Cornwall was buzzing on September 30, 1978 as crowds poured in for the official opening of the Pitt Street Mall. The banner said “Welcome,” and the whole city seemed to take it literally! Pedestrian-only Pitt Street meant strolling from shop to shop, grabbing a bite, people-watching on the steps, and soaking up that late-70s energy.

Huge thanks to Ron Landry and Vintage Cornwall Archives for this gem. We love the storefronts peeking out in the background, the hand-painted signs, and the kids sprinting toward the camera like they can’t get to the fun fast enough.

💔   A Difficult but Important Share

This week’s feature is not an easy one to write. We debated whether to include it at all, but in the end, we felt we had an obligation to share, because with our reach as a local newsletter, perhaps one of you reading this can help.

Stella, a beloved family dog in North Grenville, was tragically killed on Friday, August 1st. She was last seen near her home that afternoon, and was found deceased the following morning. Investigators have confirmed that Stella had been shot. 💔

The Ontario Provincial Police (Grenville OPP) are continuing to investigate this heartbreaking case. They have canvassed the area and spoken to many people, but they are asking for the community’s help.

👉 If you have any information, or relevant surveillance or trail cam footage from the Tompkins Road area in North Grenville, please contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 and refer to incident E251032340 .
👉 If you wish to remain anonymous, you can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 .

We know this story is triggering and deeply upsetting. Stella’s family deserves answers, and Stella herself deserves justice. If you can help in any way, even the smallest detail, please reach out to authorities.

🏆 A New Era for Fire Protection in Cornwall

Back on August 27th , the City of Cornwall marked a milestone moment with the official ribbon-cutting of the brand-new Cornwall Fire Services Headquarters at Brookdale and Tollgate. 🚒✨

This modern, state-of-the-art facility isn’t just shiny and new - it’s designed to serve our community for the next 50 years . The new HQ improves emergency coverage (especially for Cornwall’s north end and Highway 401), provides modern amenities, boosts operational efficiency, and even acts as a training hub for the entire region .

Mayor Justin Towndale, Fire Chief Matthew Stephenson, and other dignitaries were on hand to celebrate, but the real applause goes to the team that brought this incredible project to life. 👏

Here’s to safer streets, stronger services, and a facility built to keep Cornwall and beyond protected for decades to come! ❤️ 🔥

Did you know that the Seaway Valley trail system stretches over 240 kilometres of groomed trails just north of Cornwall? That’s right - from Cornwall all the way to Casselman, with connections through towns and villages like Crysler, Finch, Avonmore, Moose Creek, Maxville, Bonville, Martintown, and more. 🚜✨

We had no idea the network was this extensive! It connects with even more trails in Riverside, Eastern Ontario, Nation Valley, and Glengarry, making it one of the best-kept secrets for winter adventure.

👉 Question - does anyone know if we are able to use these trails for non snowmobile related activities?
